… The World Goes ‘Round and Stops in North Riverside …

North Riverside, IL –North Riverside Recreation Community Theater presents a theatrical masterpiece this fall in The World Goes ‘Round: The Songs of Kander & Ebb. Audiences will revel in this musical revue, which features hits from the Broadway songwriting team of John Kander (music) and Fred Ebb (lyrics). Best known for their massive successes with Chicago and Cabaret, Kander and Ebb have a long list of songs from both movies and the stage that are begging to be performed.

Crowd pleasers include well-known numbers such as “All that Jazz,” “Cabaret,” “New York, New York,” “Mr. Cellophane,” and “Money, Money.” But the less popular numbers light up the stage as well. “Sara Lee,” “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup,” “Arthur in the Afternoon,” and “The Grass is Always Greener” are guaranteed to delight audiences.

Director Jack Lampert, new to North Riverside, brings a plethora of experience to the stage. He most recently directed Oliver for the Footlighters Theatre of the Des Plaines Park District, and he’s also directed for The Northshore Theatre of Wilmette, the Buffalo Grove Park District, and the Des Plaines Theatre Guild. Before moving to the Chicago area, he directed shows in California, Louisiana and Texas. “I love the music from The World Goes ‘Round,” Lampert said. “Kander and Ebb were wonderful storytellers together.” Lampert notes that producing creative staging without the story lines of the original shows is an art in itself. “But in this case,” he explained, “the show creates its own characters. Most of the music is instantly recognizable. All of it is eminently enjoyable.”

The shows featured in this review include New York, New York, 70, Girls, 70, The Rink, The Act, The Happy Time, Woman of the Year, Chicago, Flora, the Red Menace, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Funny Lady, and Cabaret.

The cast includes Barbara Molina of Brookfield, Carol Lydecker of Forest Park, Jeff Kasal of West Chicago, Staci Singer Kelley of Schaumburg, Ben Adair of Woodridge, and Cheryl Silver and Mark Mavetz of Oak Park.

The World Goes Round: The Songs of Kander & Ebb opens on Friday, September 29th and continues through Sunday, October 8th at the North Riverside Village Commons located at 2401 S. Des Plaines Avenue, North Riverside, Illinois. Evening performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm.
